Edgar T. Brown Letters, 1942

Sgt. Edgar T. Brown, Sr., a native of Smyrna, Delaware, served in the 99th Fighter Squadron, 332 Fighter Group--part of the group of African American pilots known popularly as the Tuskegee Airmen. During the Second World War, he trained at the Tuskegee Army Flying School in Tuskegee, Alabama, before serving in Italy. Prior to his death in 2007, he was a trustee of Philadelphia's Bethel Presbyterian Church and the owner of "the famous Piggy's Drive In." The collection contains two items of correspondence, both addressed to Brown's mother in Smyrna: a postcard dated November 4, 1942, and a letter dated November 5, 1942.
