Portrait of Brig. Gen. Thomas Alfred Smyth (1832-1865) in uniform; original engraving by John Sartain, Philadelphia. Smyth moved to Wilmington in 1858 and worked as a carriage maker. He was the last Union general killed in the Civil War.
