Description
View of the "Brandywine" on water; the ship was built by Harlan & Hollingsworth in 1885 and provided service on the Wilson Line. The 1000 horsepower, 1000 passenger ship was designed by J. Shields Wilson. It was the fastest propeller steamer on the Delaware; it beat the Pennsylvania Railroad's steamers, establishing the ascendency of the Wilson Line. The "Brandywine" saw service until 1952 when she was the nation's oldest active passenger steamboat.
