Carte de visite, Emily Garrett Child, Garretts (Philadelphia), circa 1879

A carte de visite depicting Emily Garrett Child, described in an attached note (not depicted) as from "around the time she left Delaware." The studio, located at 828 Arch Street, Philadelphia, was that of Emily's brother, C. Alfred Garrett. Given the known chronology, this CdV presumably dates to between 1879 and 1881, as those were the years that C. Alfred operated alone; such a date also precedes Emily's marriage to Willard Child in 1882, after which she moved to Rochester, NY. Note that the name inscribed on the back erroneously states "Childs," likely a mistake on the part of the family friend who sent both this CdV and the one depicting Emily's sister Agnes to Emily's daughter Agnes.
