The Garrett-Cremer Collection contains daguerreotypes, ambrotypes, glass plate negatives, and some film negatives from members of the Garrett and Cremer families of Wilmington, Delaware. These pictures depict the members of the families themselves, rather than those which they sold to customers, and they demonstrate significant creativity and innovation in the photographic process. The collection also includes correspondence among members of the Garrett and Cremer families, marriage certificates, books, and ephemera from the mid-nineteenth to early twentieth centuries. These materials document the earliest decades of photography in Wilmington, as well as the history of one branch of the Garrett family.
